Image Tools

These tools cover the jobs that usually come up when a picture will not upload, will not open or is simply too big: converting between JPG, PNG and WebP, making a file smaller, changing its size or orientation, and checking what is inside it before you share it.

Most tools send your file to our server, process it there and delete it afterwards. They accept files up to 20 MB, up to 12,000 pixels on a side and up to 40 megapixels. Several tools never upload anything and run in your browser instead: the Image Dimensions Checker, the Image Text Editor, the Screenshot Color Contrast Checker and the newer tools for signatures, motion photos, Content Credentials, JPEG quality, DPI, JPEG XL, document photos, trimming and comparing. Each tool does one job with fixed settings, so read the page before you start to see what is kept (transparency, orientation) and what is dropped (metadata, colour profiles).

If you are not sure which format to pick, the JPG vs PNG vs WebP guide explains the trade-offs.

Convert

Change the file format. Converting to JPG flattens transparency onto white, so use PNG or WebP when you need to keep it.

Compress & resize

Make a file smaller, either by re-encoding it or by reducing its pixel dimensions. Resizing usually saves more than compressing.

Edit

Change what the picture shows or how it is labelled: cut it down, trim borders, turn or mirror it, clean a document photo, lift a signature off its paper, edit text in it or change its DPI label.

Inspect & check

Read information about a file without changing it, or check whether it is safe and intact.

Privacy

Remove hidden data such as camera details and GPS location before you share a photo.

Batch

Work with several images at once: find near-duplicates or lay many images out on one sheet.

Which tool do I need?

  • A photo is too large to email or upload

Use Image Resizer. Fewer pixels is the biggest saving. Then run the result through a compressor if it is still too big.

  • A site or form only accepts JPG

Use PNG to JPG. Also see WebP to JPG, HEIC to JPG, BMP to JPG, GIF to JPG and TIFF to JPG for other source formats.

  • I want a smaller file but must keep transparency

Use PNG to WebP. WebP keeps transparency and is usually smaller than PNG. PNG Compressor keeps it as PNG.

  • A phone photo shows sideways after upload

Use Image Rotator. It applies the stored orientation first, then your turn.

  • I am about to post a photo and do not want my location in it

Use Image Metadata Remover. Removes EXIF, GPS and similar data without re-encoding the picture.

  • I only need to know the pixel size

Use Image Dimensions Checker. Runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

  • A file will not open and I do not know why

Use Image Integrity Checker. Reports whether the file is complete and what is wrong with it.

  • I need to know if text in a screenshot is readable enough

Use Screenshot Color Contrast Checker. Pick the text and background colours and get the WCAG contrast ratio. Runs in your browser.

  • A form wants my signature as a transparent image

Use Signature Background Remover. Removes the paper and shadows from a photographed signature, with erase and restore brushes. Runs in your browser.

  • A form says it needs a 300 DPI image

Use Image DPI Changer. Changes the DPI label without resampling. The guide on DPI versus pixels explains what a form really needs.

  • I received a .jxl file nothing can open

Use JPEG XL to JPG / PNG. Decodes a still JPEG XL image in your browser and saves JPG or PNG at the same pixel size.

  • I want to know what Content Credentials an image carries

Use C2PA Content Credentials Checker. Shows signer, edit history and whether the signed data still matches. It is not an AI detector.
