Image Duplicate Finder

Upload a batch of photos and find exact and visually similar duplicates — free and private.

Free to use No sign-up required Files deleted after processing

Upload a batch of photos and instantly see which ones are exact byte-for-byte duplicates and which are visually near-identical (a resave, a resize, or a light recompression of the same shot) — useful before you archive, print, or clean up a folder full of photos that may have been saved more than once.

Accepts JPG/PNG/WEBP · up to 20 MB each

Overview

About Image Duplicate Finder

Upload a batch of JPG, PNG, or WebP photos and this tool compares every image against every other one in the batch, flagging two kinds of matches: exact duplicates (byte-for-byte identical files, detected with a SHA-256 hash) and visually similar images (a resized, recompressed, or lightly edited copy of the same photo, detected with a perceptual difference hash). This is a within-your-upload comparison, not a reverse image search of the web — it only ever compares the files you upload against each other.

Compatibility

Supported Formats

Accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, or WebP input. Compares up to 20 images per batch, each up to 20 MB.

Guide

How to Use Image Duplicate Finder

  1. Choose or drag in 2 or more images.
  2. Click "Find Duplicates".
  3. Review the exact and visually-similar groups it reports.

Highlights

Features

  • Exact + visually similar, reported separately Byte-identical duplicates (SHA-256) and resized/recompressed near-duplicates (perceptual hash) are never conflated into one bucket.
  • Batch comparison Upload a whole folder's worth of photos at once instead of comparing them two at a time.
  • No files retained This is a report-only tool — no output file is created, and every uploaded photo is deleted automatically after the comparison runs.

Applications

Use Cases

  • Clean up a folder of camera-roll exports before uploading it somewhere permanent
  • Check whether a batch of product photos accidentally includes the same shot saved twice at different sizes
  • Find near-duplicate screenshots before attaching them to a report or ticket

Good to Know

Limitations

Catches resizing and recompression, not rotation, cropping, or heavier edits — a rotated or cropped copy of the same photo usually won't be flagged as similar. This compares only the files you upload against each other, not a reverse search of the wider web.

Files are processed on our servers and are not shared with third parties. Files are deleted as soon as processing or download finishes. Any leftover temporary file is removed automatically by our cleanup process within the configured retention period (60 minutes). See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this tool decide two images are duplicates?

Two ways: an exact match is a byte-for-byte identical file (compared with a SHA-256 hash), and a "visually similar" match is a resized, recompressed, or lightly edited copy of the same photo (compared with a perceptual difference hash). The two are reported separately so you can tell an identical file from a near-identical one.

Will it catch rotated, cropped, or heavily edited copies?

No. The similarity check is designed to catch resizing and recompression, not rotation, cropping, or significant edits — a rotated or cropped copy of the same photo will usually not be flagged as similar. It is a duplicate-file finder, not a general reverse-image search.

How many images can I compare at once?

Up to a generous limit shown on the upload form — enough for a typical batch cleanup without letting a single request become unreasonably expensive to process, since every image is compared against every other one.

What image formats are supported?

JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WebP — the same three formats this site's image engine reads and writes everywhere else.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere permanent?

No. Your images are compared temporarily on our server and deleted automatically shortly afterward — nothing is stored, indexed, or used for anything beyond generating the comparison you see.
