PDF to JPG Converter

Turn the first page of a PDF into a JPG at 150 DPI. Only page 1 is converted, and there is no resolution setting.

Free to use No sign-up required Files deleted after processing

This turns the first page of a PDF into a JPG. Only page 1 is converted, the resolution is fixed at 150 DPI, and there is no option for the others. If you need a different page, cut it out first. The page also shows how big the image will be and when a PNG would actually be smaller, because that is not what most people expect.

Overview

About PDF to JPG

What you get

The page is drawn at 150 dots per inch as a full-colour JPG at quality 75, which is Poppler's default for JPG output. At 150 DPI a US Letter page (8.5 × 11 in) becomes 1275 × 1650 pixels and an A4 page 1241 × 1754 pixels. The drawn page has a white background, and the file is named after your PDF with "-page-1" added. There is no resolution or quality control. Pages that are rotated in the PDF are drawn the right way up: a PDF rotated by 90° came out as 1754 × 1241.

Large pages make large images

Size grows with the page. Our A0 test page (2384 × 3370 points, a poster) was converted at 150 DPI to 4967 × 7022 pixels, about 35 megapixels. It worked, but a result that large is slow to open and heavy to share, so check how big the page is first with the PDF Page Size Analyzer if you are working with drawings or posters.

Generated locally; not a benchmark; not a guaranteed result. JPG wins for photographs by a wide margin. For a page that is mostly flat white, PNG was three times smaller than JPG. For pages with text, PNG was larger here, but it keeps edges crisp and avoids the faint smudging JPG adds around small text. Use PDF to PNG when readability of fine text matters most.

Getting a page other than the first

Pull that page into its own PDF with Extract PDF Pages (type the page number), then convert the result here. Links, form fields, bookmarks and selectable text do not survive: the page becomes a flat picture. If you want the text, use PDF to Text instead, and if you want the pictures embedded in the PDF at their original size, PDF Image Extractor pulls them out. The size limits are 20 MB and 200 pages. A PDF that needs a password to open is rejected.

Compatibility

Supported Formats

Accepts PDF files up to 20 MB and 200 pages, identified by their contents. Only page 1 is converted. The result is one JPG at 150 DPI and quality 75. Password-protected PDFs are rejected.

Good to Know

Limitations

First page only; no page chooser and no "all pages" or ZIP option. Resolution is fixed at 150 DPI and quality at 75. Very large pages make very large images. The result is a flat picture, so text is not selectable and links and form fields are gone. Password-protected PDFs are rejected.

Files are processed on our servers and are not shared with third parties. Files are deleted as soon as processing or download finishes. Any leftover temporary file is removed automatically by our cleanup process within the configured retention period (60 minutes). See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I convert every page of a PDF to JPG?

Not here. Only page 1 is converted. To convert another page, extract it into its own one-page PDF first, then convert that.

Can I choose the resolution, such as 300 DPI?

No. The tool draws pages at 150 DPI. That gives 1275 × 1650 pixels for Letter and 1241 × 1754 for A4, which is enough for screens but not for large prints.

Is PNG larger than JPG for a PDF page?

Not always. For a full-page photo our PNG was 2.35 MB against 162 KB, but for an almost blank page the PNG was 12 KB against 36 KB. Text pages came out larger as PNG in our test.

Will the text still be selectable?

No. A JPG is a flat picture. Use PDF to Text to get the text itself.

Why is the image so large for my PDF?

The image size follows the page size at 150 DPI. A poster-size page produces millions of pixels; our A0 test page came out at 4967 × 7022 pixels.
