XRechnung Viewer

Open an XRechnung (or ZUGFeRD / Factur-X) invoice and read it as a clear table of parties, lines, VAT, totals and payment data. Runs in your browser.

Free to use No sign-up required Nothing is uploaded

An XRechnung is a file made for software, not for reading. If you are the one who has to approve, book or question the invoice, you want to see who is billing whom, for what, and how much. This viewer turns the XML into that picture, and keeps the raw XML one click away so you can check the source.

It also opens the Cross Industry Invoice XML of ZUGFeRD and Factur-X invoices, including straight from the PDF. The view is produced in your browser. It is a reading aid, not an official or legally valid copy of the invoice.

Overview

About XRechnung Viewer

What you get. The viewer detects the profile from the identifier inside the file (for example XRechnung 3.0 in CII or UBL syntax, or a Factur-X profile), then shows the invoice number, type, dates, buyer reference, seller and buyer with address and tax identifiers, every line with quantity, price, VAT rate and net amount, the VAT breakdown, the totals, and the payment details including IBAN. Underneath, the XML is shown indented, with a download button.

Print or save as PDF. The Print button opens your browser's print dialog with a clean layout, from where you can save a PDF. That PDF is a picture of the data as this tool displays it. It is not an XRechnung, it has no legal status as the invoice, and it is not the visualisation published by the XRechnung maintainers (their stylesheet is written in XSLT 2.0, which browsers cannot run). The XML is the invoice.

Checks you can rely on, and checks you cannot. Below the table the tool runs a selected set of rules: required fields (BR-02 to BR-09 and BR-11), the arithmetic between line totals, VAT and amounts due (BR-CO-10, -13, -14, -15 and -16), and three XRechnung rules (BR-DE-1 payment instructions, BR-DE-2 seller contact, BR-DE-15 buyer reference, which is where the Leitweg-ID goes). That is a subset. The full official validation uses the KoSIT validator with its Schematron rules, which are not run here.

Versions. XRechnung 3.0.x is the version the tool recognises by name; it reads the version number from the identifier in the file. If a newer version is released, the viewer will still show the data it understands, but look at the identifier line before trusting any version statement.

Compatibility

Supported Formats

XML up to 5 MB in the UN/CEFACT Cross Industry Invoice syntax (XRechnung CII, Factur-X / ZUGFeRD) or the OASIS UBL 2.1 syntax (XRechnung UBL, other UBL invoices and credit notes), and PDFs up to 50 MB with such an XML inside. Invoices in the Polish FA(3) format use the KSeF FA(3) XML Viewer.

Guide

How to Use XRechnung Viewer

  1. Drag in the XRechnung XML, or a ZUGFeRD / Factur-X PDF that contains it.
  2. Check the detection card: it states the format, version or profile, and the signals it was based on.
  3. Read the invoice table. Compare the totals with what you expect and look at the checks panel.
  4. Use Print or save as PDF if you need a copy to circulate internally, and Download XML if you need the original file.

Highlights

Features

  • Readable in seconds Parties, lines, VAT, totals and payment data in a table, with the raw XML one click away.
  • Both syntaxes Reads Cross Industry Invoice and UBL, so the same viewer works for XRechnung in either syntax.
  • Honest checks Required fields, the arithmetic between amounts, and three XRechnung rules, labelled as a subset of the official rules.
  • No upload Everything is calculated in your browser. Hostile XML is refused before it is parsed.

Applications

Use Cases

  • Approving a supplier invoice that arrived only as XML
  • Finding the Leitweg-ID or buyer reference an authority invoice must carry
  • Checking an invoice you generated before you send it
  • Explaining to a colleague what is in an e-invoice without opening the XML
  • Spotting a rounding or total mismatch that makes an import fail

Good to Know

Limitations

The readable view and the PDF you can print from it are not official. They are generated by this site's own layout code. Rarely used fields (attachments embedded in the XML, allowance and charge details on line level, delivery information beyond the date) are not all displayed: the raw XML shows everything.

The checks are a subset of the EN 16931 and XRechnung rules, so a clean result is not an acceptance by the recipient or an authority, and an error here is not proof that an official validator would reject the file. Schema (XSD) validation is offered on the Peppol UBL Invoice Viewer and the KSeF viewer, not here.

This tool runs entirely in your browser — your file is never uploaded to our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my invoice leave my computer?

No. The XML or PDF is read and displayed by code running in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to this site's server.

Is the PDF I get from the Print button a valid XRechnung?

No. XRechnung is the XML. A PDF printed from this viewer is only a picture of the data as shown here and has no status as the invoice. Keep and process the XML.

Why does it say my file is not declared as XRechnung?

The viewer reads the specification identifier written in the file. A Factur-X or plain EN 16931 invoice carries a different identifier. The data is still shown, with a note, so you can see what you have.

What is the buyer reference?

A reference the buyer asks the seller to put on the invoice so it can be routed, for German public bodies typically the Leitweg-ID. XRechnung makes it mandatory (rule BR-DE-15), which is why the checks panel flags a missing one.

Can it open a ZUGFeRD PDF?

Yes. If the PDF contains Cross Industry Invoice XML, the tool finds it and shows the invoice. To extract the XML as a file, use the ZUGFeRD / Factur-X XML Extractor.

Which XRechnung version is supported?

The viewer reads the version from the identifier (for example 3.0) and shows the content in the same layout for CII and UBL. The checks listed on this page are the ones implemented; they are not tied to a single version number, and a new official release may add rules this tool does not know.
