Peppol invoices travel as UBL XML. When one lands in your inbox or a test folder, you need to see what it contains: who the endpoints are, which VAT categories apply, whether the totals match the lines. This viewer shows those business terms in a table and keeps the XML next to it.
It reads UBL 2.1 invoices and credit notes, recognises Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 by its identifiers, and validates the structure against the OASIS UBL 2.1 schema. Peppol's own business rules (Schematron) are not run, and it does not claim every Peppol invoice looks the same.

Overview
About Peppol UBL Invoice Viewer
How Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 is recognised. The file must be a UBL Invoice or CreditNote. The customization identifier urn:cen.eu:en16931:2017#compliant#urn:fdc:peppol.eu:2017:poacc:billing:3.0 marks it as Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, and the profile identifier urn:fdc:peppol.eu:2017:poacc:billing:01:1.0 raises the confidence. A UBL file with another identifier is shown as generic UBL (or as an XRechnung in UBL syntax when its identifier says so), because different customizations (Peppol PINT, national CIUS) can look similar but differ in rules.
Releases. OpenPeppol publishes BIS 3.0 in numbered releases. The May 2026 release was published on 20 May 2026 and is mandatory from 17 August 2026; before that date the November 2025 release applied. The XML does not state the release, so this tool shows "3.0" and does not guess which release produced a file. Check the OpenPeppol release notes for the validation artefacts that apply to your traffic.
What you see. Invoice number, type code, dates, currency, buyer reference and order reference, supplier and customer with endpoint identifiers and VAT numbers, every line with quantity, unit price, VAT category and net amount, the VAT breakdown, totals, and the payment means with IBAN and payment terms. The same selected arithmetic checks as the other viewers are applied (BR-CO-10, -13, -14, -15 and -16).
Schema validation. The XML is checked in your browser against the OASIS UBL 2.1 Invoice (or CreditNote) schema served from this site. That confirms the structure is valid UBL. It does not apply the Peppol Schematron rules, code-list checks or country rules, so a file can pass here and still fail Peppol validation.
Compatibility
Supported Formats
XML up to 5 MB, UBL 2.1 Invoice or CreditNote. Other UBL document types (orders, despatch advice) and other syntaxes are not displayed as invoices. A Cross Industry Invoice is shown in its own layout and has its own page, the XRechnung Viewer.
Guide
How to Use Peppol UBL Invoice Viewer
- Drag in the UBL XML (or choose it).
- Read the detection card: it tells whether it is Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, XRechnung UBL, EN 16931 UBL or generic UBL, and why.
- Read the table and the selected checks.
- Look at the UBL schema result. Errors show the line number in the XML.
- Print or save as PDF from the print button if you need a readable copy; download the XML for the original.

Good to Know
Limitations
Not all Peppol invoices are identical: customizations such as PINT, national extensions and different releases carry different fields and rules. The tool displays the fields it knows and shows the rest only in the raw XML. Attached documents, allowances and charges on line level, and delivery details beyond the date are not all laid out.
The checks are a subset of EN 16931 arithmetic and required fields; schema validation covers UBL 2.1 structure. No Peppol Schematron, code-list or network checks are made, and the tool does not look up endpoints or send anything to a Peppol network.
This tool runs entirely in your browser — your file is never uploaded to our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do all Peppol invoices look the same?
No. BIS Billing 3.0 is one customization; others such as PINT, XRechnung or national variants have different rules and sometimes different fields. The viewer reads the identifiers in the file and tells you which it found.
Which Peppol release does the tool check against?
None in particular. The XML does not say which release produced it, and Schematron is not run. The May 2026 BIS release became mandatory on 17 August 2026; use the OpenPeppol validation artefacts for a release-specific check.
What does the schema check tell me?
That the XML is valid UBL 2.1 structure for an Invoice or CreditNote. Peppol also requires business rules, code lists and identifier formats that a schema cannot express.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Parsing, display and schema validation all run in your browser; the schema files are loaded from this site.
Can it display a credit note?
Yes. Credit notes are read with their own line element and quantity names and are labelled as credit notes.
Why is a field I expected missing?
The table shows the business terms most people need. Everything in the file is in the raw XML under the table. If a term you need is not displayed, the XML is the reference.
