This makes a one-page PDF from one PNG, keeping every pixel as it is. It suits screenshots, diagrams and graphics, including ones with a transparent background. Two kinds of PNG are rejected, interlaced and 16-bit, and the message tells you how to fix that. For a photograph, JPG to PDF gives a much smaller PDF.

Overview
About PNG to PDF
What goes into the PDF
The PNG's pixels are stored in the PDF without loss, so a screenshot's text stays sharp. File size stays close to the PNG's: a 1.55 MB photo-like PNG made a PDF 0.7 KB larger. A small PNG pays more in relative terms, since the PDF structure is a fixed cost: a 1.3 KB transparent logo became a 3.4 KB PDF. A PNG with a palette (limited colours) stays a palette image in the PDF, so it remains small.
Transparency
If the PNG has transparent areas, they are stored in the PDF as a separate mask, and we confirmed that the PDF for our transparent test logo contained both a colour image and a mask. How the transparent parts look depends on the viewer and the paper: most viewers show them over white, and a viewer with a coloured or patterned background may show that instead. If an exact background matters, flatten the PNG first, for example with PNG to JPG, which fills transparent areas with white.
Page size
The page takes the PNG's pixel size at 96 pixels per inch, 0.75 point per pixel, and follows its orientation. A 1200 × 800 PNG gives a landscape page of 900 × 600 points. There are no margins and no paper-size choices, so the page is not a standard size like A4.
Which PNGs are rejected
Interlaced PNGs and PNGs with 16 bits per channel are refused with the message "This PNG uses a variant (interlaced or 16-bit) that isn't supported. Re-export it as a standard, non-interlaced 8-bit PNG and try again." We confirmed both. Ordinary screenshots and exports from most programs are 8-bit and non-interlaced, so most files are not affected. To fix one that is, re-save it from an image editor with interlacing off and 8 bits per channel.
PNG or JPG for the PDF?
Use PNG for screenshots, line art and anything with transparency. For a photo, the JPG route embeds the original JPEG data and keeps the PDF small. To place several images in one PDF, use Image to PDF, or join separate PDFs with Merge PDF.
Compatibility
Supported Formats
Accepts standard 8-bit, non-interlaced PNG, identified by its contents. Interlaced and 16-bit PNGs are rejected with a message. JPG, WebP and other formats are rejected here: use JPG to PDF or Image to PDF. Upload limit 20 MB. The result is a single-page PDF.

Good to Know
Limitations
One image gives one page, with no paper-size or margin options. Interlaced and 16-bit PNGs are not supported. A large PNG of a photograph makes a large PDF. How transparent areas look depends on the PDF viewer. The PDF holds the picture only and has no searchable text.
Files are processed on our servers and are not shared with third parties. Files are deleted as soon as processing or download finishes. Any leftover temporary file is removed automatically by our cleanup process within the configured retention period (60 minutes). See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a PNG converted to PDF without losing quality?
Yes. The pixels are stored without loss, so text and lines in a screenshot stay sharp. The PDF is also close to the PNG in size.
Is transparency preserved?
It is stored as a mask, which we confirmed for a transparent test logo. How it looks is up to the viewer, and most show white behind it. Flatten the image first if you need a particular background.
Why is my PNG rejected?
Interlaced and 16-bit PNGs are not supported. Re-save the file from an image editor as a standard 8-bit, non-interlaced PNG and try again.
Should I use PNG or JPG for a photograph?
JPG. A photo as a PNG makes a PDF several times larger. The JPG to PDF tool embeds the original JPEG data directly.
Can I put several PNGs into one PDF?
Yes, with Image to PDF, which takes up to 20 images and makes one page per image, or by converting each here and combining them with Merge PDF.
